The basics on how to hypnotize others

Welcome to the How to Hypnotize Others blog! There is a wealth of free information here which is all thanks to this resource. I would highly recommend you check it out.

Being able to hypnotize other people sounds difficult but there are a few basic principles that you can stick to which will help to hypnotically induce practically anyone. So what I am going to show you today are some common triggers that you can use in the majority of people.

NOTE: These are common NLP (neuro linguistic programming) triggers that we all have.

1. Fear

This would be the number one trigger to use because as a society we are run by fear of loss. Everyone wants to be in a position where they can have something better than others and if there is a chance that we will miss out on something good the fear of not having it creeps in. The other fear is that of insecurity and being self conscious where most people care what others will think of them so they will do what ever it takes not to tarnish their "reputation". Play with these fears in order to direct your conversation towards your final goal outcome.

2. Flattery

This is great because there is not a person in this world who does not like to hear how great they are. It is very easy to misdirect someone if you play on their ego and confirm that they are better than others. This distracts their mind from focusing on anything else really and allows you to subtly implant suggestion.

3. Pity

This is useful when you are trying to create rapport/connection with someone because it confirms that you are listening to the other person. Sympathizing to their negative insecurity will generally "knock down" their defensive wall and then they will actually start to process what you tell them making it easier to hypnotically induce them.

4. Positivity

It is so much easier to influence someone when they are in a positive mood! Think about how many times you have done an impulse purchase because you where feeling in a good mood (particularly holidays). Also if you are optimistic this will rub off on the other person believe me, so make sure that you yourself are in a positive frame of mind before you begin to hypnotize and be alert for when they are excited about something in particular and confirm how great it is. I cannot stress how important it is to keep your subject in this frame of mind because this is when it is the easiest to hypnotize them.

Important things to remember if you want to learn hypnosis

Do you seriously want to learn hypnosis or is it just an idea that you want to try out? Honestly speaking if you think that you can pick it up over night you are kidding yourself and if anyone tells you otherwise they are flat out lying. Below are the key things to look for when learning hypnosis.

Your teacher

This is the most important thing because the calibre of your teacher determines how well you will learn and how quickly you will learn also. Make sure they are a registered hypnotist and have a strong background in NLP.

The course

Is the course simply a book of theories with no support from a human? If it is then do not waste your money, make sure that you have either video or more importantly email, forum support.

Your frame of mind

Believe that hypnosis is real and that you can genuinely learn it because if you have doubts then there will not be a happy ending. Back yourself and the professionals and you will learn hypnosis.

My recommendation

How to hypnotize a person into a trance

So if you have been reading this blog then you know what a trance is but to recap it is when you have put a person into a wakeful sleep where their mind is open to suggestion. There are many different ways to put someone into a trance but what I will show you today is a hypnotic induction into a dream trance.

Hypnotic induction

This I the part where you need to use the right words/phrases to get the person in the right state of mind. I like to use open ended questions where I force my subject to answer with sentences instead of yes and no answers. The questions are also directed in a way to steer the conversation towards the persons hopes and dreams so that they get fixated on this in particular.

EG: “Did you hear that the lottery is up to 30million tomorrow?”
“ Geez, what would you do if you won?”

This is a very simple question to make them open up about what their dream is because everyone dreams about living the lottery so they can have the time to do what they love. Once you get them talking they will excite themselves and put their own state of mind into a place where they are concentrating on living their dream. This right here is the dream trance and it is important to keep this state of mind going without interruption.

Maintaining the dream trance

It is easy for most people to be in a dream trance several times a day but they usually snap out of it because of a distraction or negative thought popping into their head. It is up to you as the hypnotist to maintain their train of thought and at the same time put subtle suggestions in.

EG: The persons dream is about travelling. Keep asking about different places to travel and which are the best. Let them speak and when you notice heightened excitement about a place in particular slip in phrases like, “I think there is a special to fly there “ OR “our currency is strong there”. These are little suggestions to provide a positive flow of thought.

Using the dream trance to influence

This gets a little more complicated but I would suggest looking at Igor Ledochowski’s master classes for more further help.

How to hypnotize people to be a team

If you are in a situation where you need to bring people together to be a team whether it be in a sporting environment, business environment or an educational environment then using hypnosis is a very effective way of doing this. The reason being is that hypnosis is based on NLP theories and as a leader you need to understand the thought processes that your team as whole has and also the individuals in the team.

Create a common goal for your team

Usually this is in place already whether it be winning a tournament, being the best sales team or getting the highest grades. The 1st step is to solidify this as a common goal so that your team will talk about this goal amongst themselves with out your suggestion. The most common way to create this is to talk about how the achievement positively affects the individual, but if everyone on the team does not pull their weight it will effect the individuals outcome. Everyone wants to hear about their success and they begin to create a dream of it becoming a reality, this is a very powerful. By creating a fear of it not becoming a reality this triggers your team to talk amongst themselves in order to ascertain who is a threat to them and who is an asset. This is psychology 101 but it works.

Understand your individuals

You will notice that certain individuals in a team are stronger than others and these are the people that are the key. This is where hypnotizing these people becomes so important because they will lead the rest of the team and keep them focused on the common goal. The best thing to do is to get them alone and use common conversational hypnosis techniques that involve creating a dream trance with the individual. This is about digging deeper to find what is the individual’s personal dream and to find how you can relate this to the team. Using tactics like flattery and portraying the individual in a position of power will play on their ego, but you must be sure to continue to relate this to their personal goal and then the common goal. Once you have this established in their mind then they will begin to lead the team in the common goal and then you can focus on the other individuals and hypnotize them as you previously did the “leader”. This will probably take a little time but let me tell you from personal experience it works and the results are absolutely amazing!

Are there scripts and inductions you can use?

Yes there most certainly are and I would strongly suggest looking at the conversational hypnosis link (top/left of the screen) for access to the best hypnosis resource currently available.

Do you want to know how to hypnotize someone instantly?

This is very difficult to do because it depends on a few variables.

1. Is this person someone you know OR
2. Are they a stranger?

It is much easier to accomplish instant hypnosis on somebody that you know because you are already aware of what triggers their reactions.

Example - Instantly hypnotize someone you know
You want to convince Jenny to go out tonight for dinner and drinks but she normally likes to use Friday night (tonight) as home time to unwind from the week at work. Pressuring her that she is not a team player and that she is getting old does not work and her reaction is always to reconfirm her decision to stay at home. This is a powerful piece of knowledge regarding her NLP because you can go straight into the conversation using a different suggestion linking it to a positive trigger like,

“Jenny you would not believe that discount on access to the club tonight! $30 entry all you can drink, saves a lot of money for shopping tomorrow.”

Can you see how the purpose of tonight emphasises the positive of tomorrow. This is a very powerful form of misdirection which can also be transferred to hypnotizing a stranger.

Example - Instantly hypnotize a stranger
So when you are trying to persuade a stranger to do something it is best to use very common triggers that 90% of the population have in common. This generally comes down to playing on a common fear and if they will lose an opportunity if they do not do what you say. There are examples of this when TV ads claim that “this stock take sale won’t last, act now to get access to this offer before others do!” It works every time which is why these ad’s continue and you too can also use this technique when trying to hypnotize someone instantly.

So you want to sell a new phone to a client and need the sale now or you will lose the commission. Here is a common technique: You notice they eye a particular phone so you come over to them and say,

“Hi my name is Mr X, you have impeccable taste, simply because that is the same phone all my friends have. Unfortunately this model will probably be limited and I have been getting orders all day. Take your time and look around but if I were you I would put in a reservation request.”

From this statement you have created rapport, a sense of want, fear of loss and implanted suggestion that will not leave the person’s mind even if they want it to. If you think about this situation you can probably relate and also confirm that many spur of the moment decisions have been suggested indirectly by someone.

There are many other methods to accomplish this but I would recommend looking at this conversational hypnosis coaching for in depth information.
